Service Description
**Masterclass courses are not necessarily for advanced students, but carry an expectation of a final performance or demonstration of skills learned. They have a little more homework and a lot of in-class interaction. All levels are welcome** The highest goal of a folk musician is to sing (or play) in their OWN voice -- to sound like you and only you. The greatest JOY is to collaborate with other musicians who also sing and play in their own voice. These collaborations can be incredibly magical, but also challenging as you learn to play together. In this course, we’ll explore the process of building arrangements for various multi-instrument settings. Solo arranging skills like adding chords, playing in different octaves, adding filler notes, and utilizing various right- and left-hand techniques will be just part of the process. You’ll also learn how to give your playing partner(s) space, how to make your instrument stand out when it’s your turn to shine, how to write harmonies, and strategies for communicating with the group. Your final project will be an arrangement of a piece of music for the ensemble you expect to play with.
